  1. My suggestion for helping students revise and edit papers is peer editing. Let them look at another (anonymous) student's paper and edit it to the best of their abilities. Let them know that their editing will help the other person improve their paper. I am a math teacher, so this area is out of my expertise, but I know that I was horrible at editing until I had to edit another person's paper. I felt more responsible, so I paid more attention.

  2. Erus,

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually do this already and unfortunately, it is not quite effective. I usually provide a checklist for the students to complete while peer editing, thinking that this would be helpful in keeping them focused. Instead of the students looking intently at another child's writing, they read through it quickly and provide few suggestions for how their buddy's writing piece can improve. It is frustrating and this is what I would like to change in my classroom. I am struggling with how to help the students understand the importance of carefully revising their work.

    Thank you for your thoughts!
